Play Tests - “We’re watching you!”

Ok, not in a creepy way, we are watching the play testers in an “ah, mmhmm, very interestingscientific way! :)

DSCN2912
This week we are play testing the new Nancy Drew casual game and during the meeting we have a webcam set up to watch our testers play the game. On the viewing side of the camera there are designers, producers (and intern!) making various notes and generally just documenting the way that the players move throughout the game. This is a great chance for the game designers to see how a normal ND player plays through various puzzles and storyline, and it’s a great opportunity to note and make changes to things such as game difficulty and rhythm.

Watching someone play through something you’ve created is, I’m sure, very cool… in an omnipresent puzzle master sort of way.. hehe. (And yes, that’s my hand giving a “thumb up” to begin!)

Creepy way works as well... dude, that'd be funny if I were play-testing. I'd get stuck on, like, the easiest part of the game... lol. I guess it's a good thing I'm not play-testing. I probably wouldn't be a very good example.

I think this is the coolest thing I've seen in a while.

Also, props to HI for still using Windows XP! That's the good stuff.
