Classics vs. New Titles

Have you been following our Nancy Drew Madness this week? You can see which games will be coming up in the brackets on the chart. Notice how, roughly speaking, the old classic games are dueling with newer titles?

From my perspective, I can predict winners on some duels easily, and others I await the results. Like Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake vs. Warnings at Waverly Academy. I really like both of those games A LOT, but I'm not sure what the fans' perspective will be. This will be a hard one for me to choose, but I have a good guess which will win.

However, my predictions and votes are of just my thoughts. May the general Nancy Drew fandom as a whole be heard! Remember, to participate, check back on our Facebook page each day (we tend to post around 1pm PST) and read the instructions to either "like" or "comment" to vote on the respective game that is presented to you. I update the grand chart here each time we post a new duel.

Bird Photos in Winter

Our office is in a nature park, so we often see all sorts of wildlife around. The other day we spotted a bald eagle perched in a tree.

This reminded me of when we had to take several pictures for Red in Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake. I suppose it would be cool to start a photo collection of all the birds that frequent our park. Just today we watched as a cormorant swim in the slough, catch a fish and then swallowed it whole, which was pretty awesome! Too bad it happened so fast I couldn't get a picture...

What type of birds are hanging around your home this season?

Tweet! (We have a Twitter quote contest happening today, head over to participate!)

In the Mood to Scare...?

It's hard for me to get into the "scare" mood these days, since here in Washington we've had beautiful bright, sunny blue sky and vibrant-colored trees. It's so pretty and cheerful! However, there have been excellent cold mornings this fall where it has been foggy. Not foggy in a scary way, but a romantic kind of way. This season reminds me of Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake.

From one of our office windows, shown above is a morning scene, and from the same spot, I took another picture of the setting sun on the gloriously-colored trees:

Anyways, I need to start thinking "scary". To get into the mood, I gathered up a few videos from our YouTube Channel. Perhaps these, too, will help you to get into the spirit!

We have a special birthday today!

The Silent Spy is Coming...

Do you have a favorite Nancy Drew box art? There have been some classics in the past, and some striking new ones these past few years. I particularly like Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake, Shadow at the Water's Edge, Ghost of Thornton Hall, but my #1 new favorite hasn't even been shown yet! Soon, and all in good time it will be revealed.

Looks like several of you correctly solved the puzzle! Here's the solution:
Covert the keyboard characters ^, !), !#, @, !, !, !), $ into [their respective numbers on the keyboard]. Which is [6, 10, 13, 2, 1, 1, 10, 4]. Then go back to the blog posts on the given dates, and find the hidden [messages]. Next, count [that many letters in the secret m3essage to get your final letters].

The final word from searching the blog is this [REVENANT]. Some of you on the Message Boards hit the nail on the head with it's definition, but it's meaning is further away than you think. However, it's voice is creepy... were "you paying attention?"

Birthday!

Playing Games with Friends

For my "scary games" marathon, I played Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake and then this weekend played Curse of Blackmoor Manor with my Uncle Dan (ok, he was playing and I was working on the puzzles with him, watching.)

It had been such a long time since I've played CUR and I was surprised that I had forgotten some little details! It sort of felt like I was playing it for the first time, which was awesome! Sheesh, those moving rooms in the dark is so mind-boggling...I love it.

And we spent a good deal of time trying to figure out how to "charm" the gargoyles but forgot about the shortcut we were supposed to use, and then forgot there was one more wand step after those gargoyles. We must have spent an hour trying to figure out that one puzzle! Anyways, after consulting the Message Board, we were able to work out our stuck points together and solve the mystery. I must say, normally I like playing the game by myself in the dark the first time, but replay value is totally worth it enjoying the mystery with another person. You get to look back and say..."Wow, were we clueless or what?" and laugh at the parts we were totally not understanding. XD

Looks like many of you solved the weekend puzzle! Good for you! As seen these were Maritime Flags. Decode them first to get your letters, then use the clue "Reversed" to understand which direction to read them. If you looked very closely at the entire blog post, and highlighted the blank spaces, you may have seen the cipher solution. It's a [rail fence cipher]. So if you read the letters correctly, you'd get [Hidden Passages]. And they are just that. Perhaps they will be in an upcoming game? Perhaps I am pointing you to something you will need to look for? I can't say...

Weekend Puzzle #194

If you are following along with the "scary games" marathon, we are finishing up Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake tonight and playing through Curse of Blackmoor Manor this weekend, woot! Has anyone finished DOG already for this week? I'm still working on it tonight. XD

We have a bit of urgent news, we are already running low on the physical Ghost of Thornton Hall BONUS EDITION! (If you have already pre-ordered yours, or if you plan on pre-ordering the digital version, no worries!) Best act quick if you had your heart set on having the box to put on your shelf.

Time for your weekend enjoyment, besides the game marathon, I challenge you to solve this puzzle related to GTH. Enjoy!

Have a great weekend, sleuths!

A Lovely Spring Day....with Tacos

Yet another Taco food truck stopped by today in the next-door parking lot, so of course I rushed over for elevensies to get tacos...which looked like a glorious mess and therefore I didn't take a picture. But they were amazing! A couple hours later I went back for a second lunch to try the gorditas, which are fried and one was stuffed with onions, another with meat, and the third with sweet potatoes. Going on food adventures is really interesting and adventurous. I'm still waiting for a food truck to come by with gumbo like from Legend of the Crystal Skull. Seriously, where is Granny's Cajun Cookin' around here with a fake Shorty Thurmond serving crazy spicy food? XD

Anyways, when I returned to the office, I had to stop to take a snapshot of how pretty it is in the spring here:

Sounds like several of you have finished MHM and have begun DOG! I love DOG...

Day Six for Pre-Orders

The pre-orders continue for GTH! Sounds like several of you solved the GTH weekend puzzle, some of you only mad it half-way, and a few were thinking there was supposed to be more to it... *insert evil grin*.

Here's what you do to solve it: First identify all of the missing letters (if you need help with this, simply watch the first half of the official trailer for Ghost of Thornton Hall. It's all dialogue from this video). The missing letters spell this: [Every third color]. Using this information, count [every third colored letter] to get this final answer: [See what he sees and leave]. Which is a reference to something inside Ghost of Thornton Hall that wouldn't make sense at this moment...but will once you have played it. ;)

The scary games marathon continues! How many of you have played Message in a Haunted Mansion (either this weekend or anytime in the past)? One of my favorite parts of this game was getting to see a ghost in this mirror:

And of course, anticipating every spooky or startling sound...

This week I shall begin Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake...and dream of having a basement someday of my own so that I can decorate it like Mickey Malone's speakeasy...but instead I will serve sodas from the spigots and ice cream from the fridge behind the counter. And my friends will play Scopa at the card tables. And I will have a dog named Xander who just hangs out waiting for someone to drop their ice cream...

Weekend Puzzle #193...and a Marathon!

Day four of Ghost of Thornton Hall pre-orders! From what I've been hearing/reading lately is that some of you are doing game marathons before GTH becomes available, this is awesome! However it's a little late to attempt to play 27 games before May 7th, it might be more doable to play all the "scary" games before then.

Let's see, 3 full weeks between here and May 7th, and 4 full weekends...and I personally count 7 games to be "scary" or "creepy", so that's 1 game on weekdays, and 1 game each weekend... anyone want to join me?  I'm starting with Message in a Haunted Mansion first. :)

But for the rest of us who have a little more time on our hands...and who want an insider clue from GTH, you can try solving the weekend puzzle here, enjoy!

It's a birthday crazy weekend! Happy birthday to all these wonderful super sleuths!

Ghost of Thornton Hall Box Art Revealed!

Today's the day!!! Enough gab, take a look at this cover:
For a while Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake was my favorite cover art, but now this one has made it to my #1 favorite spot. What do you make of this? The graveyard with the ghost lingering by a crypt, looking on and thinking about her past...the old, dilapidated manor to the right casts fear into the minds of those who visit...and the ghost girl, front and center with the reflection of the flames from her charred past illuminates her perplexed face.

What are your thoughts to this new illustration? We'd love to hear from you!

No Monday Post? Whyever not?!

So I completely missed yesterday's post...and therefore I must explain myself (because the truth must be revealed!)
I forgot, but for this very important reason: We have been working hard on getting a special new merchandise item up (actually it's secretly been up since Friday, but we didn't say anything until today.) We are sneaky like that; I'm surprised no one noticed this new addition over the weekend: Key Chains!!!

Yep! The dream is now living! You can get double-sided key chains in our merchandise store. There are six different shapes: Megaphone, Football, Heart, Rectangle, Square, and Round. We hope to get more images up, but at the moment they are mostly all game cover artwork you can choose from, as well as this Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake Jr. Park Ranger Key Chain!! (*Insert Jackalope screams here*). Oh, I am so definitely getting one of these for myself! But I won't until I can decide what is to go on the reverse side....*sigh* Oh dear, decisions, decisions. :P

Not to worry! I didn't forget about the weekend puzzle! Here's how this Nonogram (puzzle featured in Shadow at the Water's Edge a few gazillion times). I love this type of puzzle. Can you see what I see? Spoiler: [A mask].

Head's up! New poll on your right! What is on your wish list for Christmas? :)

Spring Wildlife: Geese

I got a hot tip from one of our artists: there was a few geese families outside behind our office. With this new information, I decided to grab my camera and go into stealth mode...which is really hard by the way when the only way to get to the geese was by gravel path and crunchy leaves. It felt just like when Nancy was taking pictures of the different birds in Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake. Oh, I love that game!

I was far less scared of getting chased by the parents than I was of the hornet buzzing circles around me.

Lovingly named by our artist, these two geese families are the Applegates and the Canterburys. Don't ask me who's who...

I can tell you that this daddy geese (on the right above) told me how far I could come....he hissed at me. He was a little intimidating. >_<

We are excited for tomorrow! Tomorrow ND#26 Tomb of the Lost Queen is launching!! Yay!! For those of you who waited for it to come out in stores...are you excited as well? ~.^
