Happy St. Patrick's Day 2014!

I unearthed an old sketch I did a few years ago to share with you for today in honor of St. Patrick's day.

From left to right is a coatimundi, an alien, a leprechaun in the alien's hat and spaceship, and a Koko kow from Sonny's sketch on Minette's intern's computer screen.

There are still a few hours left in the day for you to order a physical game for 50% off! Have you played The Haunting of Castle Malloy? Tales of Whales

Today was are monthly burger outing, but I forgot to take a snapshot of the burger truck we visited...or that one tasty thing I ate of which I don't remember what it was. So I found something else fun to talk about: WHALES! 'Cause they rule. (~.^)

To take a detour away from teasing you about GTH, I recently discovered these sketches to share. I found them in the Danger on Deception Island art archives in our office and loved them instantly. So I snatched them. Honestly, I don't know the real story behind who drew these...but I can imagine that the artist was getting in the right mood for the game. To me, they look like baby Orcas, instead of adult ones. :) I love this game, I find it really fun. (And yes, it was based in the San Juan islands here in Washington up Puget Sound. There is no real Deception Island, but there is Deception Pass. The weather here is most often grey, just like the game.)

Real Artists = Real Sonny?

Forgive me, but I nearly forgot to write a post today! Ah!! I've been otherwise occupied with one of my favorite projects; digging through our game archives. Why am I doing this you might ask? I'll tell you: it's for a rather exciting....something....coming soon. That's all I can say. But perhaps in this weekend's puzzle answer, you will get the inside scoop, so stay tuned!

While in the archives I came across this! Our artists have Sonny Joon skills. They have to because they bring him to life by their own sketches....



...which then are turned into the in-game doodles you see here! How fun is that!?

Early Sketches

Sometimes it helps the artists to sketch out their images before they begin on the computer. I rather enjoy seeing their hand work before it comes to life on the screen, and this blog is the perfect place to show you what I dug up. While searching for potential images to use in the Amateur Sleuth Blog re-design, I found this buried in the deep archive:


On the left is the original sketch of the Koko Kringle Kow. On the right is the finished Kow that was first seen on the Koko Kringle candy wrapper in Secret of the Scarlet Hand, found in Sonny Joon's messy desk in the lab. Sonny Joon reflects many of the artists in that their early sketches turned into real in-game doodles.

Check out this early sketch of The White Wolf of Icicle Creek! This is too cool...
