A Play on Names: Louis

I discovered and learned something today that I did not know before! (So excited, I had to share.) I had to look up the word chandelier to make sure I was spelling it correctly, and the dictionary said that the word of origin was "chandler". I thought, "Hey, wasn't that Louis's last name in Message in a Haunted Mansion?" Indeed it was.

So I looked up the word "chandler", and one of the definitions said "...a person who makes or sells candles..." and another definition said "a dealer or trader in supplies, provisions...". How cool is that? Louis, the antique dealer of Chandler Interiors! Those of you who have played the game will understand the irony of his name and how funny the first definition is. ;) I won't spoil it for the others, but if you haven't played MHM, play it! It's sooo cool, and pretty spooky if you like that thrill!

I just thought this was fascinating, after 11 years I finally understood the connection, and it was a magical moment.

Has anyone else noticed Ralph, the security guard's last name from the second game? Guardino. Haha.

That is so cool! The ending of MHM has always been one of my favorites, and this makes me like it even better! I wonder if any names in other games have significance like this...

*slaps face*

Oh my GOODNESS!! How on earth could I have missed the significance of Ralph's last name, after playing that game 30+ times??!

Now I feel really, really stupid.

And I do indeed get the irony of Louis' last name. My goodness, I had already loved MHM to pieces, but now I love it even more for that little joke. Haha. :D :D :D

Anyway, thank you so much for sharing, Little Jackalope. Your posts are much appreciated here. ;) :)

That is pretty cool. I never did think about that. I guess I was just as lost as you were. Glad you found out! I don't think I've played the second game.

From me,

@Anonymous -- I would love to give you a shout out! Since I'm not sure what your name is, it will have to wait until Monday or until I learn your name. :) But HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

@Sydney -- Michelle K. B. won. for her quote: "Um, no, I'm not changing my name to Bess to "facilitate office dynamics"."

I remember playing Stay Tuned For Danger (my first ND game) and hearing Bill Pappas mention Ralph GUARDino, and found it really funny. :) I used to always wait around by Ralph's desk (until it was very late in Nancy's world) wondering if he'd ever eat that doughnut!!

Also,in the same phone conversation, Nancy can claim that she is none other than Brenda Carlton! It's a real treat to know that Brenda finally made it to the games in person. Wonder if Nancy will ever encounter Samantha Quick in person as well? That's another character whom she pretended to be, after all.

MHM is my favorite game, not because it's old or whatever, but it was the very first game I got (and bought with my own money) as a kid. I remember it was in a jewel case. I actually stopped playing the first time because I couldn't figure how to get out of the room (give me a break, I was little). Glad I decided to give it another try the next day because I fell in love with it!

I love the irony of his name though! I never would have known that had you not pointed it out.

Crazy I can't believe that!

@ComicalCrafty - Brenda was mentioned in STD? *Gasp* I will have to go back and play that game now!

Also, I think bringing back Samantha Quick would be kinda fun. Have you played the Nintendo DS game featuring the Hardy Boys? She's kind of in there, too. ;)

@Krolmeisterclue(Olivia V)-- Why thank you! (I love discovering game secrets from inside our offices and reporting them to you)! Thanks for reading!

@Ashley -- MHM was my first game too! I totally understand the nostalgia of playing this one over and over. XD

@Little Jackalope

Yep, she sure was! If you try lying to William Pappas that you're actually a tabloid reporter named Brenda Carlton, then he gets mad (which isn't all that unusual) and hangs up.

Ooh, I heard that Samantha was there too. I also recall hearing Simone Mueller and Nancy discuss picking Samantha Quick as her stage name... But if Nancy meets Samantha in person, she'd better not be wearing a blond wig, sunglasses and a red dress!! :D (Which reminds me, scopa is now my favorite card game/ND minigame of all time and I could play it for hours on your website! Scopa!!)

I just remembered another unusual name in Stay Tuned For Danger too. Owen W. Spayder... I'd explain why, but that'd be *unscrambling* a spoiler. :)
